The Film Fiji board has appointed Dallas Foon as its new chief executive officer effective July 14.
The new appointment was made in consultations with the Minister for Industry and Trade, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
Florence Swamy, who has been acting in the chief executive position, for past five years, is understood to have resigned to take up a role outside rather than returning as marketing and public relations manager.
Mr Foon has held a number of senior management posts in Fiji, including the general manager of Strategic Planning for Fiji Airways and the general manager for Rooster Poultry.
In these positions he has overseen a number of rebranding initiatives, major projects, and business negotiations both locally and internationally.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum, in a statement, said Mr Foon will work closely with the board in the development of the audio visual industry.
“And importantly the creation of opportunities for Fijians opting to develop their career in the movie industry,” he said.
“During this time of transformation, Film Fiji will have to ensure we nurture and develop local talents not only actors but technical crew such as cameraman, sound engineer are given opportunities to work and grow with the Film industry.”
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said as CEO, Mr Foon will work with the Board in ensuring that audio visual policies are enhanced in line with international standards.
This would include the development of a code of conduct for audio visual agents whilst at the same ensuring that movie productions are in compliance with our inter agency regulations.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said: “Film Fiji would also like to thank Florence Swamy for her service as acting chief executive during the position’s vacancy and we wish her well in all her future endeavor.”
Film Fiji chairperson, Shaenaz Voss, said Ms Swamy’s marketing position (Marketing and Public Relations Manager) was available for her.
“However, she has decided to take up another role outside of Film Fiji,” she said.
