Prominent businessman Charan Jeath Singh says one part of his $20 million investment portfolios has already been completed. The rest will soon be undertaken given priority levels.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Mr Singh’s company would undertake a number of investments, the biggest one being on the $10 million Lautoka Hotel development. Mr Singh confirmed that his investment in the Soap Factory in Labasa had already started.
The soap factory operations had been closed after his brother had migrated.
The factory has now been in operation for the past three months.
The $2m investment in Nabua (the old Superfoods Supermarket) and the $1.5m Gurbachan Singh mall in Labasa will begin sometimes in August or September.
“We have finalised approvals from the relevant authorities that’s why it’s taken longer as expected,” Mr Singh said.
“If Gurbachan starts in August, it should be complete just within six months and the Nabua one should be completed in a year.”
He said the $2m construction of another 20 rooms at Grand Eastern Hotel in Labasa was still on the drawing board.
Investment towards South Pacific Waste Recyclers, a subsidiary of Gosal Distributors Ltd was underway.
“The machines are currently being installed now, those production line should start by July or August, and were brought from Taiwan,” he said.
“I’d like to basically say that amongst all our projects we’d like smaller ones to complete first then we’ll embark on our Lautoka Hotel project.”
The Lautoka Hotel project is likely to commence next year with a time frame of 18 months of construction time.
