Permanent Secretary for Industry and Trade, Shaheen Ali, said “This is an opportunity to put in place measures that can strengthen existing bilateral trade and economic relations, while beginning dialogue on new initiatives.
“Fiji appreciates the continuing support provided by the Government of People’s Republic of China,” he said.
“This platform will address avenues to not only increase trade but also to ensure that trade is balanced between Fiji and China. This entails finding market for key Fijian exports into China.”
Mr Ali further stated Fiji looks forward to create new networks, new businesses and new opportunities emanating from this Forum.
Additionally, the Forum is expected to advance Fiji’s trade and economic relations with China, which will in turn bring about tangible and sustainable benefits for Fijians.
The China-Fiji Joint Economic and Trade Commission Forum will be chaired by Mr Ali and will include Permanent Secretaries and chief executives from key Government agencies.
The Chinese delegation will be led by the Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Commerce, Fang Qiuchen and will comprise senior Government officials and Embassy representatives from the People’s Republic of China.
