Chinese company keen to supply electricity to places with no power

A Chinese Company of Sichuan Province from China have shown interest in investing in Vanua Levu.
China Chengdu Import& Export Group Company Limited is willing to supply power to places in the North that are without consistent supply of electricity.
The investors recently had a meeting with various stakeholders.
Project manager Simon Liqing told stakeholders Vanua Levu has the potential and is a good place to invest in given the developments that are currently taking place.
He the independent power plant in place will supply electricity to all rural areas and will draw in local and foreign investors to invest in Vanua Levu to complement the changes that is taking place.
After chief engineers spent time studying the island, sufficient information was gathered drove the major investors to come to an agreement to implement and assimilate potential sites to establish the hydro power projects.
Naua River belonging to Nakanacagi Village in Dreketi was than identified as the potential proposed site for the hydro project.
However the company is looking into different aspects that will economically and socially benefit the people in the north.
Mr Liqing has confirmed that negotiations are currently ongoing with Fiji Electricity Authority, Investment Fiji and other relevant stakeholders.
Divisional Planning officer North Uraia Rainima said a consultation will be done with the villagers of Nakanacagi before the project proceeds.
