The Attorney-General and Minister for Industry and Trade, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, has highlighted noting a big growth in the interest in the fashion industry here.
He said this was particularly evident given the number of fashion shows held in the recent past.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum made these comments whilst addressing guests at the launch of AZA Premier Fashion Collection brand at TappooCity in Suva on Wednesday evening.
AZA Collection is a couture designed exclusively for Saffron Soul and is from Fijian designer, Zulfikar Ali.
Mr Ali is also the Tappoo Group Indian Boutique national sales manager.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum stressed the Bainimarama Government’s initiative was not just to support Fijian designers, Fijian Made, Fijian Crafted and Fijian Grown.
“It is the entire process of ensuring that we promote any artwork, any product that is made by Fijians,” he said.
“It of course inculcates and creates an industry within Fiji itself and gives people a lot of confidence in themselves at the same time it contributes to the economy and creates jobs.”
Support for industry
Tappoo Group executive director Kaushal Tappoo stressed for the Tappoo Group, they take the initiative of promoting local designers and clothing.
“On that note, we have also taken the government’s initiative of promoting Fijian Made logo, Fijian Made Artifacts and souvenirs which we very proudly showcase at our duty free and indeed the rest of Tappoo group,” he said.
“The AZA collection has a lot of vibrancy, sophistication, it has today’s youthfulness in it, it has colours, it has to be respective but more importantly it has a lot of elegance.”
Mr Ali said the production was all done in India mainly Mumbai.
“I am very happy it’s launched in the market and I couldn’t get a better launch than this especially at TappooCity,” he said.
Mr Ali noted his main target market were high-end customers.
About 300 pieces were on display and about 16 pieces were modeled by young models at the event. The collection is available only at TappooCity.
