Nine members of the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association are vying for the seven vacancies on the association’s board. The decision will be made at the association’s 48th annual general meeting to be held today at the Radisson Blu Resort on Denarau Island.
Current president, Dixon Seeto, said the way the association’s board is structured is in a way so that there is continuity.
“It means only some members of the board will have their term expire,” he said.
“There are a number of the board members whose terms have come to an end. Many of them are looking at coming to the board.
“We also have some members who have expressed their desire to join the board and have put their nomination.
While Mr Seeto’s term on the board expires in 2016, his presidency position will be up for election which expires yearly.
Also up for election will be two vice president positions. At present there is only one vice president, Patrick Wong. This follows the resignation of Joseph Della Gatta .
At the AGM, Mr Seeto said the main thing for them is to report on the activities of the association for the past year and plan the coming year.
Presentations
Before the annual general meeting proper, there will be a series of presentations by various people representing various organisations.
The first presentation will be done by the managing director of Nadraki, Neville Koop. He will be speaking on “The Developing El Nino and its Potential Impacts on the Tourism Industry”.
This will be followed by Peter Fuata’s presentation who is HFC Bank’s Treasurer on “International Treasury” and how it links into the AGM.
Shoma Devan, Partner Neel Shivam Lawyers will then make a presentation followed by Tomasi Lovo, BSP Life West Sales Manager who will be speaking on the “History of BSP Life”.
