The Board of Rarawai and Penang Cane Producers Association have taken a decision to suspend its president, Gyan Singh.
A letter obtained by the Fiji Sun signed by four board members states that Mr Singh’s suspension stemmed from allegations by a former employee of the association.
Questions emailed to Mr Singh remained unanswered. Several calls made to his number were also unanswered.
One call was answered but was disconnected as soon as he was told it was the Fiji Sun.
Also, the bank account of the association has been frozen and no payments are being made.
The letter dated April 10, 2014 read: “This is to inform you the Board of RPCPA met on April 10, 2014 and unanimously resolved that you are suspended as the President of RPCPA with immediate effect.
“This decision has been made in light of an allegation made by a former employee named Bimlesh Nath.
“The board will soon meet and decide on the next action. Upon the completion of the investigation you will be given a chance to justify your innocence if you are proven guilty.
“You are hereby requested to abide by the decision of the RPCPA Board.”
The letter was signed by acting president Anandi Lal and members Devendra Naidu, Gaj Raj Singh and Mohammed Afzal Khan.
A police complaint has also been lodged against Mr Singh by another employee of the association. Police confirmed receiving this.
Association members informed us that despite the Board suspending Mr Singh, he has refused to vacate the office  He hashired private security personnel to prevent members from accessing the office,      they said.
