Fiji National University students pursuing a career in Accounting will now have the opportunity to work anywhere in the world as chartered accountants.
This was after the Fiji National University Accounting programmes were accredited by professional accounting body – CPA Australia.
University College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Dean, Dr Mahendra Reddy said this was a remarkable achievement by the university.
“What the graduates would want is a qualification that is not only limited to each and applicable and relevant to Fiji’s market, they want a qualification which is recognized throughout the world,” Dr Reddy said.
“So this achievement in terms of our accounting programmes being recognised by CPA Australia is a remarkable achievement for FNU,” Dr Reddy said.
He said this would be a bonus for graduates because they will now be able to join any job market outside Fiji without any hassle.
Dr Reddy said the university’s accounting programmes was now equivalent to any other programme in Australia.
“Three of the importance of FNU accounting programmes being accredited by CPA Australia was employability, recognition and salary,” he said.
“No one can say that because of your qualification your salary will be different from someone with an Australian qualification. This is because CPA Australia, the world renowned professional accounting body has now recognized our programmes.”
Dr Reddy said their plans now are to improve infrastructure and increase teaching staff at the university.
He added they would be able to handle the influx of students given that the products they offered were internationally recognised.
