Ten shipments of Bauxite from Bua are planned to be shipped off to China this year.
Aurum Exploration (Fiji) Limited Group Executive Director Sang Lei confirmed: “We have shipped 13 shipments of bauxite up to date and now we have planned to ship 10 shipments for this year 2014.”
The mining company has also identified two other potential bauxite sites in Nasarawaqa and Wainunu in Bua.
Mr Lei said that with these areas they are also currently preparing for the extension of the current mine.
Meanwhile Mr Lei said as the financial year has just finished, the total cost of bauxite shipped has not been worked out yet.
He added that the rehabilitation works at the mine are also going well.
“It is in the first stage, we put the top soil back after mine, and we are planting some grass and vegetables to rich the soil with some fertilizers, also we are doing nursing of local trees; the second stage we are planning to do the tree planting trial.”
Moreover the company has employed around 80 workers from the Vanua Levu areas alone with around 15 foreign staff.
