Regular overseas travellers can be assured of free travel insurance when they use the newly launched Westpac Classic Visa credit card when making their travel purchases.
Westpac Fiji General Manager Adrian Hughes said that a unique feature of the card is the free travel insurance that comes when using the card.
“The Overseas Transport Inconvenience Insurance provides benefits for delayed flights, a missed connection or even if your luggage has been delayed by four hours.
“The Overseas Transport Accident Insurance feature is another benefit in the unfortunate case of accidental death or injury for travel overseas bought on the Westpac Classic visa card. So cardholders can do things and go places with greater peace of mind,” Mr Hughes said.
This mass market product targets those in the salary range of $15,000 per annum or more. But Westpac warns that they have a conservative credit approval guideline.
“More Fijians today will be eligible for a card and more importantly we’ve now empowered our bank managers across Fiji to approve a credit card limit of $3,000.  And that approval can be obtained in 24 hours.
Mr Hughes also encouraged customers to take advantage of the 55 days interest free on purchases.
The new card compliments Westpac’s existing credit card offering which is the American Express card (AMAX).
Over the past  12 months Westpac has refurbished close to half of its branches with the latest addition in Lautoka.
“We are significantly increasing our ATM footprints with 30 new ATMs being launched over the course of this year.
“We are increasing our staff numbers and we are also launching new products such as the Visa Classic Card,” Mr Hughes said.
The Westpac Visa Classic card can be used in millions of locations world wide.
The launch was held at the Courts Store Samabula.
Westpac operates in seven Pacific Islands countries, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, Cook Islands and Samoa.
