Bank of Baroda has become the first financial institution to use Bank South Pacific’s (BSP) Gateway Payment system through an interchange agreement.
The agreement was witnessed by BSP and Bank of Baroda staff at BSP Suva Central building yesterday.
The interchange would essentially mean that Bank of Baroda customers can now swipe their bank cards on BSP ATMs and EFTPOS terminals nationwide and vice versa.
The agreement also extends to further specific BSP Gateway Payment facilities.
BSP country manager, Kevin McCarthy, said: “All Bank of Baroda customers can now swipe their bank cards on our 105 ATMs and 1325 EFTPOS terminals nationwide.”
Bank of Baroda Fiji Operations chief executive, Pabitra Kumar Das, said they were happy to come onboard to facilitate its 62,000 customers nationwide.
“This has been a dream project for Bank of Baroda Fiji operations and we are grateful to Mr McCarthy and the BSP Fiji team for their whole hearted support in achieving this dream for us.
“This is a chance to open up to out to customers because right now we only have 12 electronic machines in Fiji and using BSP’s facilities will extend our reach.”
BSP extends gateway for others
Meanwhile, Mr McCarthy said they have also extended the BSP Payment Gateway to other banks in the country.
He said the invitation has been sent to HFC which is expected to become a fully-fledged bank come 2014 and also to BRED Bank.
“We are committed to extending this access for Bank of Baroda customers to other bank ATM and EFTPOS in the near future,” Mr McCarthy said.
“This service is potentially available to any financial institution in Fiji wishing to use our Payment Gateway and capitalising on our largest and fastest ATM & EFTPOS network.
“Talks have begun with other interested stakeholders and we will work on delivering solutions that ensure success for all involved.”
Meanwhile BSP will open two more ATMs scheduled to be installed soon at Hanson Supermarket in Makoi and at the USP Laucala Campus over the next few days.
