A total of 840 prizes were drawn yesterday at MHCC in Suva which was for a competition for social welfare food voucher recipients.
The competition which was launched three months ago saw a total of $30,000 worth of prizes drawn.
The competition was a result of efforts by MHCC to reward social welfare voucher recipients who fall under the Ministry of Social Welfare’s programme.
Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Jiko Luveni said the initiative taken by MHCC was a splendid opportunity for the social welfare recipients.
“The Government is really thankful to the MHCC team for bringing out such a competition that also benefits the social welfare recipients,” she said.
“We are happy such a competition was organised where some of these recipients got an opportunity to win valuable items they could not afford otherwise.”
There are a total of 21,000 registered people under the social welfare food voucher scheme.
Carpenters Fiji director retail and marketing Kunaseelan Sabaratnam said the competition was a first ever.
“We are really happy to be part of the Ministry’s social welfare programme as it is the first time ever that we have had such a competition,” Mr Sabaratnam said.
The attractive prizes
Some of the prizes given out were LED television set, washing machine, refrigerators and other electrical appliances as well we mobile top ups and other food vouchers.
“This competition gave a chance to the food voucher recipients to be able to win themselves some appliances that they could not afford by themselves,” Mr Sabaratnam said.
“MHCC has been part of social welfare programme for the past three years and we continue to support their initiative.”
The names of the winners will be advertised later next week.
