Fletcher Pacific Steel (Fiji) hopes to grow bigger and better in the Pacific in the coming future, said New Zealand-based Commercial manager of Pacific Steel Group, Jeremy Blackmore said.
The company organised an open day for the staff and families at Walu Bay yesterday.
“Currently we are not profiting as much as we expected due to global recession but we do hope to pick up sooner,” Mr Blackmore said.
“We are a building group that supplies steels and building materials and we want to make it big in the area.”
The company also works closely with environment department to protect and safeguard the environment.
“We are trying to collect all waste oil, recycle and reuse it in our construction and steel production works in a way trying to protect the environment as much as possible,” Mr Blackmore said.

Open day
Nine years of no injury losses and two years of no medical treatment gives Fletcher Pacific Steel a better reason to celebrate.
“Without any injuries so far, we have organised an open day to pass on safety related issues to our employees’ families,” Mr Blackmore said.
“The company has been really efficient with employees taking responsibility in all the work they do and we do hope to prosper in future.”
The company invited various departments such as the Department of Environment, Saint John Ambulance, National Fire Authority and Land Transport Authority to share their message on safety to the families at the open day.

Company forecasts
Company Rolling Mill manager Vishwa Reddy said the company is currently working its way up the ladder in terms of quality and quantity.
“We do have competition from importers though we are the only steel company in Fiji,” Mr Reddy said.
“But we go out of our way and focus on our quality and quantity of the product and give a fair value to the market.”
With construction works slowly progressing, Mr Reddy said more projects will be taken up by the company.
“While the market picks up vigorously in the coming years, Fletcher Steel will be soaring high as the best steel supplier not only in Fiji but also we want to make a mark in the Pacific,” he said.
“Steel has been supplied to a lot of construction works in Fiji with roads and bridges and high rise buildings and hotels being constructed, we are so far doing great.”
