By RACHNA LAL and FARISHA AHMED

The Attorney-General and Minister for Communications, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, has extended Fiji Television Limited’s broadcasting licence for another six month.
“Under the provisions of the Television Decree of 2009, the existing broadcast licence of Fiji Television is being extended for a period of six months with effect from June 30, 2013,” he said.
“Until further notice of any additional terms and conditions, including spectrum allocation, that may be prescribed, Fiji TV shall continue to broadcast under the terms and conditions contained in its existing licence for the extended period.”

Restructure undertaken
Fiji Television Limited sought for its broadcasting licence to be extended for another six months as the company undertakes a restructure.
In a letter to Mr Sayed-Khaiyum, Fiji TV chairman, Padam Lala, asked for the extension to be granted before the current period expires on June 30.
He said that Fiji TV is currently undergoing a restructuring process, which hopefully will be completed in the next few weeks.
“At this stage of the restructure, Fiji TV and its ultimate parent company, Fijian Holdings, would be content with an extension of (the) FTV broadcasting licence to the maximum of six months,” Mr Lala said.

Longest serving board member resigns
One of the Fiji Television Limited’s longest serving board member, Isoa Kaloumaira, has resigned.
The announcement was made through the South Pacific Stock Exchange yesterday.
Mr Kaloumaira became the board member in 1998 and served as a chairman for two periods.
Chairperson of the Fiji Television Limited, Padam Lala, said: “We sincerely appreciate Kaloumaira’s service over the past decade and thank him immensely for his dedicated loyalty.
Mr Lala said Mr Kaloumaira contributed to the strategic growth of Fiji TV’s business.
“Mr Kaloumaira has led the company through its challenging economic environment, while ensuring that the company continued to stay focus on growing its shareholders value,” he said.
