Post Fiji Limited chairman Isireli Leweniqila warned postmasters to change their mindset otherwise their jobs would be taken over by someone else.
He was speaking at the Universal Postal Union (UPU) regional project on operational efficiency and e-commerce development workshop at Novotel Hotel in Nadi yesterday.
“Take away that idea that you are a postman; we are in business now; you have to sell and you have to make a profit,” Mr Leweniqila said.
He said in three to five years, the government would close the post operations if postmasters did not act now.
The workshop was attended by postal experts from UPU and country project managers and deputies in the Pacific region.
It discussed, explored and shared best practices for the future of e-commerce in the postal sector and how postal services could enhance their operational readiness to meet the demands of the industry.
“If we are not innovative or work harder and smarter, I think the picture is very clear; we might have to close doors,” he said.
Readiness in the digital age
Post Fiji’s chief executive officer Issac Mow emphasised the importance of operational readiness for e-commerce in the digital age.
He said the workshop offered a unique platform for knowledge exchange, allowing postmasters to strengthen their regional collaboration and be fully equipped to meet the needs of the e-commerce sector.
“We want to fully automate our postal system so that we can speak the same language when it comes to dispatch and delivery of mail,” Mr Mow said.
