The Housing Authority of Fiji announced the results of the barrel draw for 31 residential lots in Mokosoi, Deuba, along Pacific Harbour.
The draw, held last Friday at Valelevu, was attended by representatives from the Fiji Police Force, the Ministry of Housing, and authority staff.
Chief executive officer Ritesh Singh opened the event by highlighting that the project initially comprised 34 lots.
Of these, 31 were designated for low to medium-income earners (Class C and D), and three were reserved for medium to high-income earners (Class B).
The three Class B lots will be advertised separately through Expressions of Interest (EOI) from the public.
Mr Singh praised the dedicated efforts of both past and present staff in developing the residential lots in Mokosoi.
The authority received an overwhelming 185 applications via the Housing Authority Online Customer Portal. Each application underwent a thorough screening, selection, and objection process based on the HA Lot Allocation Policy 2023.
Out of the 185 applicants, 102 provisionally met the criteria, which included being first-time homeowners, Fiji citizens, having a combined annual household income of $50,000 or below, demonstrating the ability to purchase a lot and build a house, and being over the age of 18.
From these 102 provisional applicants, 31 were awarded residential lots in Mokosoi through the Barrel Draw.
These awardees will now undergo a final due diligence process as outlined in the Lot Allocation Policy 2023.
The event underscores the authority’s commitment to providing affordable housing solutions to Fiji’s low and medium income earners, ensuring more citizens have the opportunity to own their first homes.
