The Vanuabalavu Expo at Lomaloma, Lau, was commended by finance provider, Merchant Finance Limited.

Its manager contact centre, Sakiusa Boletawa said the expo offered a good market.

“Vanuabalavu is different from other places because of how they are performing right now with their company and what they aim to do individually or in the community, in terms of financing,” Mr Boletawa said.

“It was a good turnout for us as people asked a lot of questions in terms of growing their business by getting more capital, loans and investments. We look at the interest that has been shown from this expo and we will assess accordingly as we had a large number of vehicles that we have helped financed before. We can finance more of these as we believe that we will be helping people at the outer islands.”

Mr Boletawa said there was a good cash flow happening at Vanuabalavu Island.

He said it was surprising to learn of the amount of good financial literacy that the people of Vanuabalavu had.

“We saw other businesses that we could assist in terms of MSME, introducing our Marama and Vanua Finance that are aimed to assist women in MSME,” he said.

“We hold a lot of financing through the transportation side of things on Vanuabalavu as there is a lot financing of trucks, twin cabs on Vanuabalavu. We aim to do more of that.

“They have really good financial books to support their interest for investments and there is still a big market that we can tap in to help.”

Aside from providing finance advice, Merchant Finance also spoke to students of Adi Moapa Secondary School in terms of career paths.
