The Fijian and Papua New Guinea private sector continued explore business opportunities through one-on-one meetings on day two of the Trade and Investment Mission to Papua New Guinea.
This was portrayed by comments the Permanent Secretary for Industry and Trade, Shaheen Ali.
The seminar and exhibition was officially opened by the Fijian Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama and has generated substantial interest amongst the business communities in PNG.
The Fijian businesses took advantage of interest generated and met with their counterparts in PNG to further pursue trade and investment prospects.
“The one-on-one meetings arranged on the second day of the mission enabled the Fijian businesses to establish contact and mutually beneficial partnership with the PNG businesses,” Mr Ali said.
“We are overwhelmed by the response the Trade and Investment Mission has received”, said Mr Ali.

tangible results
The seminar and one-on-one meetings attracted around 150 potential business partners and achieved the key objectives of creating trade and investment for both Fiji and PNG.
Mr Ali said: “This Trade and Investment Mission is the beginning of strong business relations between Fiji and PNG.
“A number of tangible results were achieved from one-on-one meetings today. Companies have received orders, and entered into agreements with suppliers and distributors in PNG.
“Furthermore, two Fijian businesses have registered as foreign investors in PNG, thus far.”

The Fijian delegation included 47 companies with 65 representatives joining the Government delegation to PNG.
The exhibition displayed Fijian Made products and services, which generated interest amongst the PNG business community.
The Permanent Secretary added that the Trade and Investment Mission to PNG is the first of its kind to any Pacific Island country and is the largest mission led by the Fijian Government.
The Prime Minister extended an invitation to the PNG Government and the business community to Fiji to experience first-hand the opportunities offered in Fiji.
