Fiji’s aviation regulator confirmed an investigation was carried out and completed, into an incident involving national airline Fiji Airways.

Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) earlier told SunBiz it would investigate an incident where a Fiji Airways aircraft bound for Brisbane from Nadi, returned to land not long after it took off.

The aircraft, according to real-time aircraft flight tracking information Flight radar, circled a tower in Lautoka six times after it left Nadi International Airport, but returned to land soon after.

The incident occurred on the eve of International Civil Aviation Day, where passengers later boarded another aircraft for takeoff.

“As with all occurrences reported to CAAF, this has been investigated,” CAAF chief executive Theresa O’Boyle-Levestam said.

“It has been ascertained that the pilots followed standard operating procedures in this event.

“Nil further investigation is required.”

In a separate incident, some passengers called for more transparency from Fiji Airways, after a flight from Tuvalu was cancelled.

One passenger claimed he wrote four times to the airline seeking a response that never came.

The passenger called on the Australian government to lobby the airline to be more transparent about the situation, ABC News reported.

“Let’s hope we can get Fiji Airways to provide some clarity to stranded passengers sooner rather than later,” the passenger said.
