More than thousands of Fijians will be employed as the Vatu Talei takes shape on Denarau Island.
Dubbed the hotel for the future, The Jewel which has an investment of quantum of $200 million, illuminates the path for both the Fijian and global hospitality industry.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officiated at the ground breaking ceremony on Saturday said: “The Jewel will create more jobs in its construction phase and approximately 350 permanent positions on completion.
“The design is obvious that we are well positioned.
“We are conscious of the potential impact of economic problems already but this does not diminish our overall belief in the attractiveness and desirability,” he said.
Mr Rabuka acknowledged the pivotal role of Richmond PTE Limited’s role in the success of the tourism industry since 1996.
“The coalition government’s proactive support for development has helped to consolidate Richmond commitment.
“I applaud the company’s speed in moving forward.”
