After doing mostly office work, Violet O’Connor found her calling in being a hair professional, designing jewellery, and making customers happy.

Ms O’Connor is the new owner of Aussie Hair and Beauty Salon at Harbour Centre in Suva, which she took over last month.

She joined the salon two years ago, renting a chair to do hair services for her clients.

The 45-year-old from Lagalevu Village, Nakasaleka, Kadavu, began her hairdressing career 16 years ago, assisting her sister at her salon Edge Hair Design in the QBE Centre on Joske Street, Suva.

Now she oversees the Harbour Centre establishment offering a wide range of hair and beauty services to meet customer demand in Suva and beyond.

SunBiz spoke to Ms O’Connor to find out her favourite food and travel experiences in Fiji so far, and her top bucket-list travel destinations.

What Are Your Favourite Places To Eat In Suva?

Coffee Hub, for their fruit salad and desserts. Palm Court makes the best steak sandwich. Moments Café makes the best coffee. I normally get a cappuccino. The barista to see there is Ravai.

Where Have You Enjoyed Travelling To In Fiji?

Port Denarau, which is where most of my clients are in the West. I like the hotels and sightseeing. It’s really nice.

What Places Are You Most Looking Forward To Visiting?

We’ll be going to Savusavu to do hair and makeup. It’ll be my first time travelling outside Viti Levu so I’m interested to see what it’s like. From there we’ll be going across to Taveuni.

What Is Your Top Bucket-list Fiji Destinations?

I’d also love to travel to Kadavu, where my father is from, to visit because I haven’t seen that place.
