Professional dancer turned lifeguard, Ke-Anna Jutta, is an avid traveller who enjoys dogs, nature and plants, more than human company.

At 25, she is the lifeguard team leader on Belo Vula Resort, Bekana, Lautoka.

Of her affection for nature and animals, Ms Jutta said she felt the love and loyalty from such simple pleasures, in ways many did not comprehend.

“They’re not all about opinions, but actions,” she said.

“I enjoy them better than most humans.

“I look at ants and wonder, what’s their schedule for today; they do not sleep; the little things that don’t need words and better left unsaid.”

Where In Fiji Would You Take Friends To?

Belo Vula Resort, Bekana Island, just off the coast of Lautoka City.

A five-minute boat ride, its white sand beach can be spotted from the waterfront of the Sugar City.

Affordable and comfortable, it has gained its place as a favourite picnic destination for day travellers.

Many locals grab the opportunity to get to the island, just to get away from the city.

A family-feel environment, it is Fijian-owned business, and offers the ultimate laid back Fijian experience.

With thatched bures and cabanas, it is simple, small and a home away from home.

For activities, there are a host of water sport choices, with fishing included.

Not many resorts offer fishing as a guest activity.

What Is Your Favourite Spot For Coffee Or Pie?

Joe Wong’s Cafe, 115 Marks Street, Suva.

It’s by far the best; best quality, best service, food and beverages made with soul.

Consistency is another strong suit of the restaurant. I went back years later, and the taste had not changed.

Their strength is also in fresh, warm sandwiches made on the spot; not the sort that is displayed for your pick.

What Is Your Favourite Backyard Spot?

Bekana.

You jump on a boat, get off on a beach, and you’re still close to nature.

It’s a good spot for meditation, to get your mind off things, and if you want, you can even take your work there.

What Is One Place On Your Bucket List?

Beqa Island.

I spent most of my formative years on the island with my nanny.

I feel the need to go back to experience life in the village, as an adult.

The sense of entitlement they bestow on you.

They give you sense of entitlement, making you feel as part of the family, even if you’re visiting.

I remember it for the royal treatment they graciously accorded.

It was home to my first experience with traditional iTaukei food, with the ocean, and with the elderly.

Every house you walked by was home.
