Let’s Go Local: Soul Care In Rakiraki For Jonetani Tonawai

Jonetani Tonawai has spent decades making contributions to Fiji’s financial sector in the human resources field since the 80s.

Mr Tonawai was recently appointed as the CEO of the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation.

He worked at four prominent local banks namely, ANZ Bank, National Bank of Fiji (NBF), Bank of Hawaii and Colonial Fiji Life Limited. He later joined the Ministry of Finance, Fijian Holdings Ltd, and the Fiji National Provident Fund.

Originally from Laura in Nadroga, he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from Griffiths University in Australia and an Executive MBA from Indonesia.

Mr Tonawai is passionate about the people side of his work and believes that following your passion is the key to success.

Throughout his career, he has made it a priority to build family values and put his family first, which consists of his wife, six children, and seven grandchildren.

 

What Do You Enjoy Doing Outside Of Work?

I enjoy sports – not aggressive sports. But I go to the gym a little and I like spending time with my grandchildren.

 

What Is Your Favourite Food?

Right now, I’m into tofu and vegetable soups.

 

Do You Have A Favourite Book That You’ve Read Recently?

Soul Care: 7 Transformational Principles for a Healthy Soul book by Rob Reimer.

It’s looking inwardly and looking after your inner self.

 
What’s Been Your Favourite Travel Experience In Fiji? 

Out in Rakiraki, more so because there are lesser people in the area. I go there for relaxation.

There’s a health clinic out there that my wife and I go to called Three Angels Missionary College – Health Retreat, Rakiraki.
