Hotels have become creative with waste management, to support Fiji’s move towards the green environment.
InterContinential Fiji Golf Resort and Spa partnered with Mission Pacific, a recycling programme, recently to deal with its management efforts.
Mission Pacific is operated by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Fiji.
The partnership will minimise the environmental impact of operations by the resort.
It ensures responsible disposal of beverage packing, said Akshay Singh, the area director of sales and marketing at the InterContinental Hotels Group.
The Mission Pacific Programme aims to promote sustainable practices and increase recycling rates in Fiji.
The resort supports the initiative as a responsible tourism operator.
“We are committed to educating our staff and rewarding suitable behaviour through the programme,” he said during a sustainability webinar by Tourism Fiji, yesterday.
“The resort receives a redemption fee for every PET bottle or aluminum can collected,”
Items as thin as a straw was identified as Fiji’s way of combating climate change in the business sector.
