The Moutai Chinese liquor is seen as a promising brand for the Fijian tourism industry, a liquor representative said.
Moutai Fiji’s Maggie Mai made the statement at a wine tasting event on Saturday night.
It was a collaboration with the Captain Cook Cruises onboard the MV Fiji One for Mother’s Day.
Guests were invited to enjoy the culinary delights and beverages prepared by their local partner and distributor, Moutai Fiji.
Ms Mai said the Fijian marketing looked very promising with tourism culture and for the love of food.
“This wine tasting event is to broaden the knowledge of Moutai to the locals and boost interaction between Chinese and locals,” she said.
“What makes these products unique is that it is the only one that distills yeast during its distillation process of seven times throughout the year and aged for five years.
“It’s the only one that uses solid grain material in the fermentation process giving the liquor its distinctive flavour.
After winning multiple awards, internationally and domestically, this high-end spirit has been named China’s superior liquor in 1951, said Ms Mai.
“It is the only alcoholic beverage presented as an official gift by Chinese embassies in foreign countries,” she said.
Moutai currently sells over 200 tonnes of liquior to over 100 countries across the world.
Moutai Fiji managing director Danny Cheng bought the rights to sell its products in Fiji in 2012.
“This is from the tourism industry growing and with more expats coming in and with wine events such as this,” he said.
Mr Cheng said the wine culture in Fiji had grown tremendously over the years.
The company opened a showroom along the Martintar strip, Nadi in 2019.
Moutai Fiji employs over 10 people.
About China Moutai

It was in the Qing Dynasty mid-17th Century to early 20th Centuries that Chinese distillers introduced advanced and unique techniques for processing the distinctive type of liquor.
Since its gold prize in 1915 at the Panama-Pacific International exposure in San Francisco, USA, Moutai shares the title of the world’s top three distilled liquors with Cognac and Whiskey.
