Tourism Fiji will replace its current fleet with electric vehicles (EV) this year.
Tourism Fiji chief operations officer Leigh Howard said they were excited at the prospect of shifting their current four vehicles to five EVs.
“We’re working with EV Direct Australia, who is a major supplier in the EV space in Australia and we have forged an important partnership with them to come across to Fiji,” she said.
“We will roll out five EVs and potentially three charging solar charging stations in our new office complex.”
Mr Howard said EV Direct Australia planneds to bring over 1000 charging stations, over a two-year period, to expand the Fiji EV market.
“The idea behind that is to promote Fiji as a green destination,” he said.
“We’re taking steps for our progress to a green destination,” he said.
Mr Howard said EVs would be acquired through a lease arrangement with a local dealer where there was no outlay of a major investment from them.
“It’s a leasing agreement, all our maintenance is actually taken care of in the leasing agreements; so we’ll probably be saving excess of $3000 a month on savings,” he said.
