The mCorp Western Charity Alliance was launched in partnership with the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation on Saturday, expanding a channel for philanthropic efforts by the corporate sector in the Western division.
mCorp, which was initially launched in February, is an SMS service that shares advice on corporate giving on Tuesdays and Thursdays and sees funds from subscriptions poured into charity organization consisting of corporate bodies.
Subscribers can also make donations to these organizations through the SMS service by dialing *636#.
Speaking at the launch, Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Dr Ram Raju lauded the Foundation’s initiative in strengthening the outreach of the corporate sector to the community.
Chairman of the new Western Charity Alliance and a member of the Fiji College of General Practitioners (FCGP), Dr Raju said they had spent the past eight years working closely with the Foundation, who are the main sponsors of the FCGP’s Children’s Heart Foundation.
This has seen the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation allocate close to $4 million to send children overseas for dire medical treatment, particularly to India and Hawaii.
Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation executive Ambalika Kutty said the world was driven by technology now and they were keen to also use this as a platform to address issues and challenges faced by people in the community.
Through the establishment of the Northern, and now Western Charity Alliance, she said they could make a real social impact in their surrounding communities.
mCorp’s motto of ‘paving the future for women and children in Fiji’ strives to bring to the fore necessities faced by people and providing these through the aid of its alliances.
