Nineteen women graduated with certificates in Beauty Therapy Level IV from the Nadi based Spa Academy on Saturday night.
Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards (FETA) Board of Trustees chair and Spa Academy principal, Debra Sadranu officiated the event at Sitar Restaurant in Nadi.
“We are so happy that the demand for graduates this year is evident once again. We have resorts contacting us daily and we cannot meet the demand,” she said.
“Our training institute is accredited with the Fiji Higher Education Commission and has always been heavily focused on creating employment in Fiji spa tourism industry.”
She added that one of their milestones was becoming a CIDESCO accredited Institute. CIDESCO is the world standard for beauty and spa therapy. It is represented by the leading schools and colleges of the world in over 40 countries across five continents which offer the internationally acclaimed CIDESCO standards and qualifications.
“We are very proud to be aligned with CIDESCO international, giving much credibility to our Academy and putting Fiji on the international platform for standards in Beauty and Spa training,” she said.
“Our Academy prides itself in providing training with the highest level of international standards and is proud to be making a difference to the livelihoods of our local women, creating employment in a career with high demand in giving women the self-confidence and skills to carry them through life.”
Next year the academy will celebrate its 25 years of existence.
Anita Wati, 41 and Shivani Ragni Naidu, 28 scooped highest theory Award 2022 and highest Practical Award 2022 respectively.
They have now secured jobs at Six Senses Fiji.
Ms Wati, a mother-of-two, took up beauty therapy as a career to support her children.
“I had worked at a lot of places including my husband’s business where I worked as an accountant, After some marital issues, I decided to come out of the house and do something on my own,” she said.
“I was really passionate about everything regarding beauty therapists, so I made some sacrifices during the six months programme as I had no income, but had my sister’s support. Plus principal, Debra Sadranu gave me a scholarship to complete my programme.”
Ms Wati is originally from Qeleloa in Nadi.
Shivani Naidu is also from Nadi and opted for the course because of her interests in massage and beauty therapy.
