A push to get more iTaukei students interested in accounting yesterday embraced two of the country’s major schools: Adi Cakobau School and Ratu Kadavulevu School.
The Fiji Institute of Accountants is conducting a series of dialogues.
This was done in the hope to increase iTaukei accounting professionals in Fiji and also to enable them to be knowledge-equipped of the profession.
Fijian Holdings and the institute team were accompanied by former students from ACS and RKS who are institute members and Fijian Holdings employees.

Building the institute

Fiji Institute of Accountants president Cama Raimuria said this was a starting point towards building the accounting institute not just in numbers but with more purpose.
Mr Cama said with the ratio of iTaukei members in the accounting industry very low, there needed to be motivational talks and beginning with schools.
“By having former students share their experiences, this would in more ways than one motivate them to become key members in the field they wish,” Mr Raimuria said.
“It’s also an opportunity for them to ask questions as many questions as they like. This is a start and we hope to continue this with schools in Suva and elsewhere in future.”
This was a great opportunity for students to get to know what was happening in the real world as opposed to what they deem true on the social media.

Key to reaching goal

Fijian Holdings group chief executive, Nouzab Fareed said: “The key is to work hard and reach your goal.
“Accounting is the catalyst to be successful and to be successful you need to find ways to achieve this.”
As sponsors of the dux award for Adi Cakobau School students, Mr Fareed also hinted that they are looking to increase the prize from the usual laptop and cash prize money.
