If you visited or drove past the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva during the weekend at night, you would have noticed it lighting up in shades of blue and orange.
This is in support of World Cancer Society’s World Cancer Day.
A global event and the first for Fiji, through Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), cities around the world signal their commitment to the global challenge of cancer by lighting up their major landmarks on February 4 in the World Cancer Day colours of orange and blue.
“To support and contribute towards local charities into driving initiatives as such is key for IHG Hotels & Resorts,” Lachlan Walker, the InterContinental Hotel Group area general manager – South Pacific said.
“We are proud to be associated with the Fiji Cancer Society who are a leading organisation pledging to work towards increasing public awareness about cancer and cancer prevention and the Union for International Cancer Control in shining the light of World Cancer Day through the colours on our iconic Grand Pacific Hotel,” he said.
“Everyone knows somebody affected by cancer, including our colleagues, their families and their friends, so we are very proud be part of raising awareness and showing support.”
To amplify this support, the Grand Pacific Hotel with the Fiji Cancer Society organised an event in the past week.
It hosted Minister of Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, Suganda Goswami who shared her experiences as a cancer survivor, acting British High Commissioner Paul Welsh, Belinda Chan and Makarava Wilson from the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS).
Colleagues including from Holiday Inn Suva as part of the initiative also took a health walk around Albert Park in the past week which helped raise awareness and supported a healthy lifestyle.
