Lost revenue for many businesses will be a thing of the past as Westpac Fiji has just launched its new Verifone VX EFTPOS terminals.
The launch was done yesterday at the Rhum-ba on Denarau Island amidst Westpac executives, staff members and customers.
Westpac Regional Head for South Asia and the Pacific, Greg Pawson, said: “The terminal is built specially to suit the needs of businesses in Fiji.
“It has inbuilt automatic back-up communications – which greatly limits downtime due to failed communications.”
Mr Pawson acknowledged the issues businesses have faced for a long time at the point of sale.
These included slow processing speeds and dropped connections, having to carry multiple terminals for multiple card users, and the nightmare of reconciling them at the end of the day.
“I know many of you have been plagued by communication failures and the associated issues, so know how much time and anguish this will save,” he said.
Mr Pawson said for customers, it was not only the length of time to make a purchase that was frustrating but security also a concern.
“With the increase in fraud we have seen recently, security and protection of people’s savings has been top-of-mind for everyone: for customers, for merchants, for banks, for police and for government,” he said.
“When Westpac was looking to upgrade our EFTPOS terminal, we wanted to find one that would solve all of these issues and encourage people to transact by debit or credit card by making it easy and safe.
“This is why we partnered with the leading global manufacturer of point-of-sale solutions – Verifone. Westpac’s new EFTPOS terminal – the Verifone VX – is fast and safe.
“It processes transactions at twice the speed of Westpac’s previous terminal and is by far the fastest available in the Fiji market – in fact, across the Pacific.”
To safeguard customer data, it offers the latest encryption technology.
The new EFTPOS terminals are easy to use for customers and staff, with a large colour touch screen and it’s completely mobile.
“You can take payment to customers – which I know will appeal to those of you in hospitality or related businesses,” Mr Pawson said.
“You will no longer need to carry multiple terminals. The new Westpac EFTPOS accepts every card – domestic and international.”
The EFTPOS terminals can also be branded to suit businesses with their own logo or business name on the screen rather than a bank’s.
