Fiji Sugar Corporation Executive chair pleased with cane to sugar ratio as well as mill performances

As of Sunday, 260,000 tonnes of sugarcane has been processed and about 26,700 tonnes of sugar has been made.
This has been confirmed by the Fiji Sugar Corporation executive chairman, Abdul Khan.
Mr Khan said the tonnes of cane to tonnes of sugar (TCTS) ratio was below 10, a good indication.
He said adding to this good production level was the performance by the mills saying there had been no major issues with the mills.
“Also, everybody seems to be pulling together. With the monitoring and surveillance the police and community are doing, we don’t see any burnt cane coming through,” Mr Khan said.
But whilst all this was good, Mr Khan said they still have problems in the weekends with the supply of cane.
“We have problems with cane cutters on Saturdays and Sundays,” he said.
In light of this, Mr Khan said they are now relooking at how they operate the mills.
“So where we may be doing for example some of our planned maintenance during the week, we may just do this in the weekend,” he said.
“Obviously there may be some cost associated but we are doing an exercise to see the viability. This would be logical for us to look into.”
