A group of lorry drivers yesterday applauded the efficiency of Labasa Mill saying long waits in queues had now improved since the opening of the mill the past month.
A lorry driver, Jiten Prasad, said he only spent three hours waiting to offload his cane, something he said was a major relief compared to past years.
“This is really something good because it will surely increase cane production this year,” he said.
Another driver, Bhupendra Prasad, said he hoped such improvements would continue.
“The mill is operating well and it’s really easy for us who travel from afar because we don’t have to wait for long hours at the mill,” he said.
“This will not only help the drivers but the farmers and labourers too as they will have enough time to rest.
“We only hope this positive result will continue until the crushing season ends.
“The only problem I face is lack of cane cutters but otherwise everything is good.”
Divisional Planning Officer, Uraia Rainima, said operations at the mill had been smooth with no major problems.
