This agreement would allow sharing of trade information such as import and export data and other trade related statistics between the two agencies.
Permanent Secretary for Industry and Trade, Shaheen Ali, said the information will complement the Ministry in undertaking current trade analysis, provide sound policy advice and to effectively participate in trade negotiations.
He said the exchange of information will also assist in the implementation of trade standards and laws such as Trade Standards and Quality Control Decree
“This memorandum of understanding formalises the good working relationship between FRCA and the Ministry,” Mr Ali said.
“It will enable both agencies to assist each other in achieving the national goal of further enhancing Fijian trade and investment.
“The Ministry has in the past relied on the FRCA data, which is up-to-date, comprehensive and accurate.
“The memorandum of understanding will further facilitate the flow of information and data between the two agencies.”
Mr Ali assured both agencies are committed towards facilitating trade and creating a conducive environment for investment.
“Both the agencies are also committed towards better understanding of import rules, such as rules of origin and import tariffs of the partner countries and working with other stakeholders on reducing the time taken for clearance of goods,” Mr Ali said.
