McDonald’s Fiji has revealed plans for more investments and expansion.
The first step has already begun with a bold and exciting change in their restaurant kitchen system.
This comes with the opening of the renovated “Made for You” kitchen at all three of its outlets: Laucala Bay, Victoria Parade in Suva and in Nadi.
McDonald’s Fiji’s burgers and other menu items will now be assembled when a customer submits an order and not before as used to be the case.
McDonald’s Fiji operations manager Verenaisi Wong said: “The ‘Made for You Kitchen’ is basically for customers.
“Once they come in and place their order, we will make it there and then for you the customers.
“If you want your burger without pickles or onions, we can make that for you. If you want extra condiments, we can make that for you.”
McDonald’s Fiji has removed the bins where the burgers were held prior to being ordered.
“With the new system now we only make the products once the customers place their orders or once the orders are rung up on the registers,” Ms Wong said.
“On a busy day, we will have six people in the kitchen and on a slow day we reduce that by 50 per cent and have only three people in the kitchen.
“They become productive and there’s a lot more urgency now with attending to our customer’s meal.
“The burgers are hot along the line until it gets to the customers. We are hoping to increase our customer base with the introduction of this platform.”

New equipment
Ms Wong said they have replaced the old equipment.
“We now have a universal toaster which toasts our buns faster than the older ones and a heat proof dressing bench,” she said.
“With the old system, the equipment was becoming obsolete so it was quite hard to get replacements done.
“Now with the new equipment, we are on par with New Zealand and Australia who are using the same concepts and it’s quite easy.”
The price of the burgers remains the same.
Details about the expansion plans are still under wraps.
