Returnee guests and long time friends of InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa recently donated over FJ$5000 to Malomalo Primary School for new lights and ceiling fans.
Collected by the Lesiw family from Australia under the ‘Malomalo Primary School – Bring Them Light and a Breeze Appeal’ campaign, the new fans bring the children much needed relief from Fiji’s tropical climate.
During the Lesiw’s past visit to Malomalo Primary School, they noticed that the classrooms had no lights and fans. This, they believed contributed to the children’s inability to then maximise their productivity.
“We are thankful to the Lesiw family and friends for their efforts in ensuring that our children are comfortable in their learning environment with this recent donation and previous donations such as new sports equipment,” Head Teacher Mr Naivalu of the school said.
“Other guests also donated camping tents for the school’s Girl Guides to use for an upcoming team-building trip.
Another previous donation included new school shoes for the children earlier this year, funds to repaint the classrooms and new books for the school library, he added.
Erik Stuebe, InterContinental general manager said, the resort’s Community Care fund was an ongoing project.
It is aimed at continuously developing education and preserving cultural treasures such as the Vale ni Vanua in Malomalo village.
“We’re delighted our guests are actively working with us to help create a brighter future for the children of Natadola Bay,” Mr. Stuebe said.
