Meeting Accountants look ahead in Congress

Westpac and Vodafone once again partner up to become major sponsors

Today’s Vision, Tomorrow’s Reality, is the fitting theme for this year’s Fiji Institute of Accountants’ 42nd annual congress.
The congress will be held at Shangri-La Fijian Resort from May 23 to May 25.
It was announced during another year of support between Westpac Fiji and Vodafone with a sponsorship of $75,000.
With today’s ever changing societies and constant innovations and evolving technologies, institute president, Asit Sen said, there was never a better time to envision what was yet to come.
He said speakers lined up would be addressing various issues as well as weaving their topics around the main theme.

More diverse
Mr Sen added this year would be another exciting year for them as a debate topic will be on generated from Genetically Modified Foods.
While it was arguable that it may not have a direct relationship with the accounting profession, he said the focus now was that accountants were becoming more diverse.
Mr Sen said: “It is important for FIA to facilitate dialogue in discussing the changing demand on Fiji’s business community in responding to social, economic technological and legal landscape.
“We now have a new constitution and the new company law has been discussed extensively and many other changes affecting the business community are happening and we need to adjust accordingly.”

Strong message
Westpac general manager, Adrian Hughes said they hoped the bank’s continuing support would send a strong message and contribution that accountants provide to Fiji’s economy as a whole.
