Skyward Industries, a Nadi-based company specialised in aerial and video technology, has introduced a 3D Mapping technology in the country.
Company managing director and chief executive, Kevin Rotsaert, said this introduction followed months of research and development and final approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji.
Capable of mapping virtually any area in three dimension to an accuracy of 3cm, it gives users a state-of-the-art solutions for perfect surveying.
“Our models allow to view terrain vectors, giving us or our clients the ability to predict water movement and create accurate flood models,” Mr Rotsaert said.
Mr Rotsaert said the technology was ideal for developers, government bodies which deal with land issues and mapping.
“The technology has been developed all over the world and is a combined project from multiple universities,” Mr Rotsaert said.
“It has been in existence for about three or four years in the making and then it took us a couple of months to introduce it.
“We have some partners overseas in South Korea, Europe and in America and together we’ve managed to bring it here and have introduced it for the first time.”
Mr Rotsaert said his company saw it fit to introduce the technology here given the major developments in today’s technology.
“A significant feature of the technology is its defining accuracy to mapping out water routes to track areas where floods will most likely be,” he said.
“They can create flood models based on the vectors of the terrain so how the slope can predict where the water from the rain will most likely go because of the slopes of the terrain.
With that, he said: “We can generate very accurate flood models. Those are just a few of the capabilities that we’re currently doing.
