Renovation to be carried out during the long weekend

Processing in progress in the PAFCO cannery in Levuka.

Pacific Fishing Company Limited (PAFCO) is anticipating the closure of the cannery in Levuka over the Easter long weekend to allow for renovation works to continue.
This is part of the $7 million renovation plan whereby works have been divided into different phases.
Already $2.5 million has been spent on renovation works which was over the Christmas period when the cannery was closed for a period allowing majority works to be carried out.
This closure during Christmas is understood to be normal for three to four weeks.
PAFCO management is now scheduling the rest of the renovation works over a period of time and trying to fit the work in so that there is least disturbance to the production.
Renovating a cannery required specialists which no doubt there is a shortage of on Ovalau.
Therefore PAFCO has had to arrange for the appropriate time for contractors from overseas and Suva to be in Levuka.
The specialists would have to allocate their time whilst the task for PAFCO is to ensure they have all the materials on site.
This is as sometimes there may be materials which have to be specially manufactured and tailor-made for PAFCO’s cannery.
