Students at two rural schools near Labasa now have the same opportunities as many schools in the urban centres with fully-equipped computer sets with internet connection.
This is after Telecom Fiji Limited (TFL) donated two sets of computers each to Bulileka Sanatan Bulileka Dharm Primary School and Tabucola Valibar Sangam Primary School.
The schools have a majority roll of students living in the sugarcane settlements.
Following visits last year, the TFL team saw the essential need to bring the students and the schools with such advancement hence the donations.
The donations are in line with Government’s call to bring our younger generation with the latest technology and connectivity.
Both schools said the donations were timely given the constant advance in technology seen in the world today.
Bulileka Primary assistant head teacher, Pranesh Sharma said previously they only had computers for the staff.
Definite plus
“The computers are a definite plus for the students especially as it will keep them abreast with the latest technology,” Mr Sharma said.
“We will be using the computers to do our newsletter issue and we have decided to give it an appropriate name ‘Connect’ as an appreciative way to remind us of TFL’s donation.”
In future, the school plans to build a new computer lab that will be funded by Government’s Education Grant, he said.
Tabucola Valibar head teacher, Sushil Narayan said: “Technology is advancing and so is the education curriculum.
“And it with this that technology needs to be incorporated with the student learning so they can be at par with the rest of the world.”
Both schools thanked Telecom and were looking forward to working with them again in future.
