Nuku’alofa: Tonga’s International Dateline Hotel will be temporarily closed on February 28.
This is believed to be to enable major renovation work by its new owner, the Tanoa Hotel Group of Fiji.
According to a reliable source, a Tanoa Hotel Group delegation were in Tonga the past week on the final stage of the negotiation for the Tanoa Group to take over the Dateline Hotel.
It is understood that an agreement has been reached, but there are still a few legal papers which are yet to be signed off.
The Tanoa Hotel Group has six properties in Fiji, three in New Zealand, one each in Samoa and Vanuatu, and its latest acquisition will be the Dateline Hotel, Tonga.
It is not known yet, the extension and how long it will take to renovate the Dateline Hotel, but apparently it should be all completed and ready before the Coronation of King Tupou VI next year.
