Castaway Island Fiji chairman, Geoffrey Shaw, took ownership of the iconic resort 20 years ago, and today, the resort’s reputation has grown from strength-to-stregth.
Over those 20 years, Mr Shaw has reinvested on a continual basis to maintain and improve every aspect of Castaway.
This is shown in the high percentage of returnee business that is not only good for Castaway Island but great for Fijian tourism in general.
In 2013, the Island Resort has operated at very high occupancies right through until mid November.
Resort manager, Stevan Andrews, said during the Christmas and New Year holiday periods, they would see a bit of a dip, as usual in occupancy.
“This will be over the summer before e climb into the 2014 shoulder and peak seasons again,” he said.
“However, we are still working hard in all key source international markets to attract visitors to Castaway with attractive packages.
“It is wonderful our little island paradise has such a loyal following of guests who return year after year and look forward to coming ‘home’ to Castaway.”
Tourism award nomination
Castaway Island Fiji has been selected as finalist in three categories of the 2013 AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards. This will be held on February 21.
These are:
l Accommodation Deluxe
l Restaurants – Lali Sand Bar & Grill ‘1808’ menu
l Services and Support to Industry – celebrity chef Lance Seeto
The 1808 (restaurant) menu that has been nominated has been the brainchild of Chef Lance, which focused on the arrival of the first Chinese to Fiji in 1808.
This is the first time Castaway Island Fiji has submitted an entry in the Accommodation category for this awards.
Mr Andrews said: “The Castaway family are so excited about the AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism Award nomination.
“Our management and staff work tirelessly year round to deliver high standards of service across the resort.
“This award nomination recognises that hard work, so it would be an outstanding achievement to the entire Castaway family to bring home the trophy.”
