The Rakiraki Town Council is working closely with its stakeholders to form a Rakiraki Chamber and Commerce Industry.
Interim special administrator Ralulu Cirikiyasawa said he has been working closely with the business community since taking the post six months ago.
“At the moment the chamber of commerce is non-existant, but we are definitely working on it,” Mr Cirikiyasawa said.
Every two months since I have joined office we have been having this meeting.
“The first was in July, September then the past Monday I had a consultant meeting with business community.”
Mr Cirikiyasawa said he was happy with the outcome of the meeting.
Changes since joining
Mr Cirikiyasawa said there had been a lot of changes since he joined office six months ago.
“We are trying to promote the town. It may be located in the northern Viti Levu but it does have potential and opportunity for growth,” he said.
The Rakiraki Town Council will be zoning areas under the town planning scheme to lure investors.
“We launched the town scheme a month ago and there is an objection period to it according to the law of three months,” he said.
“Hopefully we are going to zone these areas which have not been done before.
Mr Cirikiyasawa said a lot of businesses had been running from their residence and would be classified as illegal after the zoning.
“This would prove to be structured and respective businesses need to operate at the designated areas,” he said.
Outside the boundaries
Mr Cirikiyasawa said there is more room for development outside the town boundaries.
One of the areas he pointed out was the Volivoli Beach area.
“I have been to Volivoli and there are four star resorts there. There is room for more resorts around the area,” he said.
