Carptrac, a divison of Carpenters Fiji, has recently invested in a 300kw Sephco load bank worth approximately $65,000.
This will enable them to test generators on site and without disrupting power to the building where the generator is installed.
Carptrac Manager Ivan Lauri said: “A common practice to check a generator’s operation is to simulate a FEA (Fiji Electricity Authority) blackout.
“Now that we have a load bank, it has the ability to test generators without doing this.”
Mr Lauri stated they would now accurately simulate different loads all the way up to 100 per cent of the generators rating.
“Having a load bank will greatly reduce the time needed to diagnose and repair generators resulting in a lower repair cost for our customers,” he added.

New trainer
In addition to purchasing the load bank Carptrac has also employed Arnold Cabrera an expatriate Electrical Engineer from the Philippines.
Mr Cabrera was previously employed by 4R Electrical and IMEL (Industrial Marine Engineering Limited) where he worked for seven years.
Mr Lauri said: “We intend to capitalize on Arnold’s experience by implementing an Electrical Apprentice training program.
“We are currently recruiting apprentices for 2014 and we will always continue training the young people of Fiji for the future.”
