December 17

Treasure Island, one of Fiji’s iconic resorts, had a mini opening on December 1 for its guests after restoration works were completed following the devastation of 2012’s Cyclone Evan.
The President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau will officially open the renovated resort on December 17 at the island off Lautoka in the Mamanucas.
Treasure Island and Bounty Island Resorts Group general manager Scott Walton said cost of the damage was in excess of $8 million but they were happy to finally open for clients.
“This had been the hardest time for us, our families and the business. However all the monies received from the insurance was invested back into the repair work.”
Resort reopening
Treasure Island opening again means a lot more to the resort management.
“We will be able to welcome back our faithful returnees and show off a revitalised Treasure Island,” Mr Walton said.
“As well as supporting our owners community and re-employing staff from the village and getting back to our charitable causes which is on temporary hold.”
Some employees were retained to help with the clean up and reconstruction.
“Although many are being brought back now for the reopening and as business picks up we’ll be able to bring back many of the same old faces mixed with new faces.”
Positive outlook for the resort
Bookings have echoed a positive vibe as tourists returning to the resort are eager to see the new look.
Mr Walton said: “Bookings are really positive and returnees are eager to see what’s happened in the last twelve months.
“We always have plans for the resort and I’m a big believer in announcing future plans once they are done.
“So far now our new developments will remain a secret.”
