London: ANZ was named Bank of the Year for the Asia Pacific region, as well as Bank of the Year in Australia, Cambodia and Laos, by ‘The Banker’ magazine, a flagship publication of the Financial Times and the world’s longest running international banking title.
The editors said ANZ’s unique super regional strategy and ability to offer a full range of banking services to retail, commercial and institutional clients, as well as its significant growth in the Asia Pacific region, set ANZ apart in determining the regional winner.
Gilles Planté, ANZ CEO Asia Pacific, said: “Our results across the region, including winning Bank of the Year Asia Pacific for the first ever time, serve as proof of the depth of our retail, corporate and institutional banking expertise.
“We became the first Australian bank to open in Myanmar and we launched “goMoney” mobile phone banking in the Pacific. We also received many Asia Pacific product and deal awards in 2013, reflecting our growing customer satisfaction and increasing revenue contribution to the Group,” Mr Planté said.
ANZ was also named Bank of the Year in Laos for the fifth time and in Cambodia for the second time, as well as Bank of the Year in Australia. The individual country wins were a result of strong management, sound business models and a prudent approach to risk.
In Australia, ANZ was recognised for its strong domestic franchise and ability to leverage the Group’s super regional advantages to connect customers to opportunities across the region.
