The Fiji Electricity Authority yesterday scooped two awards during the 18th National Quality Convention Awards.
The awards were attributed to positive results of the authority’s implementation of Quality Circle.
The convention by the Fiji National University’s National Training & Productivity Centre was held yesterday at Holiday Inn Suva.
Two of the four Fiji Electricity Authority teams took the Gold and Bronze awards while Tanoa Hotel Group’s team took the Silver award.
The Fiji Electricity Authority’s Quality Circle is driven from the Board and Executive Management Group level.
This closely involved three general managers for the convention which resulted the implementation of all four indicating their commitment towards the programme.
The authority said the teams are currently working on their projects at both competitive and non-competitive categories and have set a timeframe for project completion where applicable
“Participation of the Quality Circle Teams are be based on assessment by project progress and completion and with consent by respective general managers,” it said.
“The programme was very much in line in with the authority’s strife for quality and productivity as outlined by their objectives.
“It provides an alternative concept in bringing the concept of craftsmanship when used in group form (as is the case with quality circles).
“It can be powerful and will enable the enrichment of the lives of the workers and creates harmony and high performance in the workplace.”
Centre commends participation
National Training and Productivity Centre manager quality awards, Robin Anganu, said all organisations’ involvement in the convention was commendable.
He noted seeing major improvement over the years as was evident with the number of organisations competing in the convention awards.
“This year the responses has been enormous as we a huge number of teams competing,” he said.
“This means that the message of increasing productivity as an innovative tool is getting to the private and public sector is having an impact.
“They are listening and they are seeing the benefits of implementing such tools in their organisations.”
