The largest maritime institute in the South Asia, CINEC Maritime Campus, has signed an agreement with the Fijian Government to manage the Maritime School of the Fiji National University in Suva.
The agreement was signed by the Attorney-General and Minister for Public Enterprises, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, on behalf of the Fijian Government.
Also Fiji National University vice chancellor, Ganesh Chand, and the managing director of CINEC Maritime Campus, Ajith Pieris, signed on behalf of their respective institutes.
Aitken Spence PLC deputy chairman, Rajan Brito, and Aitken Spence Maritime chairman and Jt managing director CINEC, Dr Parakrama Dissanayake, were in attendance.
This is a further expansion in the activities of CINEC Maritime Campus which recently signed an agreement with the Seychelles Maritime School to manage it.
The management of the Maritime School by CINEC, will fulfill a long-standing need of the Government of Fiji to produce seafarers.
Currently, the Maritime School has courses up to Class 3 watchmen.
With CINEC managing the school, they will be able to provide courses to the category of Master Mariners and Chief Engineers.
This is yet another landmark achievement in keeping with the objectives of the Bainimarama Government to generate real growth in the Fijian economy by generating new employment opportunities.
