Housing Authority of Fiji is urging the general public to take advantage of their National Housing Expo 2013 at the Vodafone Hibiscus at Albert Park in Suva.
Thirteen stalls from different housing stakeholders have come together under one roof to provide housing services and information to the public.
Housing Authority spokesperson, Dwain Qalovaki, said: “Come and find out more information on the different housing options available.”
The Housing Assistance and Relief Trust (HART) homes is one of the stalls that can assist low and single-parent families earning no more than $150 weekly.
“As part of the national housing expo this year, the HART home is using the platform to promote the handmade products like soaps, honey, oils, traditional art and crafts,” Mr Qalovaki said.
The products are the handiwork of the women who live in the HART homes and acts as an income source for their families, he said.
HART home representative, Mere Seru, said the initiative undertaken by the organisation is have the families sustain themselves and get back on their feet.
“The income generating products we have are from the hard work of women in the homes,” Ms Seru said.
“This gives them a chance to support their families by earning extra income from their products.”
She said some of the families have been able to sustain themselves out of the initiative and in doing so moved out of the homes to acquire better living arrangements.
There are over 768 homes in Fiji with over 600 pending requests to the organisation still.
