A crowd of people line up at a bemobile centre in the Solomon Islands when it was launched in 2010.

Honiara: The country’s second mobile phone service provider – bemobile – says it will be business going forward for bemobile in the Solomon Islands.
The statement came after withdrawal of the Fiji National Provident Fund and Vodafone Fiji from a plan to invest in and run bemobil in Papua New Guinea.
The withdrawal comes four months after the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Papua New Guinea.
Speaking to the Solomon Star yesterday bemobile Solomon Islands Ltd country manager Niall Downey said the news about the withdrawal does not affect their operations both in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Solomon Islands.
Instead he said it will be business going forward for bemobile in the Solomon Islands after it signed a new contract with a new partner early this month.
“Bemobile Limited signed a new contract at the start of the month with our network vendor to develop the business going forward in the Solomon Islands.”
Mr Niall said this new deal will see further improvement and expansions in the country in terms of mobile coverage.
“This will have an immediate impact for our customers over the next three months here in all provinces. This will include a 3G expansion in Honiara and the offering of new value added services.”
He added that all the staff are excited with the new partnership because more exciting activities, promotions and services will be on offer for all its customers.
